Lines and wrinkles on the face are the result of many factors such as chronic exposure to sunlight, loss of skin elasticity with age, atrophy of skin layers and excessive muscle contraction.

They often result in giving the impression that the person is angry, scared, tired, depressed and older than their age. BOTOX is a substance that blocks the transmission of the stimulus within the muscle causing a temporary weakness of the injected muscle.

The very small dose used for wrinkles has only a local transient effect with virtually no side effects on the rest of the body. It is the most common non-invasive cosmetic plastic surgery treatment with millions of people each year undergoing BOTOX treatment worldwide. It has been proven to reduce or even eliminate excessive facial wrinkles, especially in the forehead area, between the eyebrows and on the outside of the eyes in the “crow’s feet”.

It also has good results on wrinkles around the mouth and neck. The results are spectacular, giving the face a relaxed, stress-free, healthy and youthful appearance. With the use of BOTOX we can also do the so-called Nefertiti lift. With targeted injections along the angle of the lower jaw and in the vertical “bands” in the neck, we achieve face lift along the jaw, elevation of the corner of the mouth, reduction of bitterness lines in the corners of the lower lip and a significant improvement in relaxation in the neck.

The treatment takes place in the doctor’s office, a calm, safe and personal environment. The technique involves injecting a very small amount of the drug with very fine needles into the areas deemed necessary. The patient immediately returns to his activities, and the results begin to become apparent after the 3rd day. We suggest that patients do not rub the area and do not lie down for the next 3-4 hours and avoid exposure to high temperatures, eg hair dryers for the next 2 days. Redness rarely occurs at the injection sites, which subsides immediately. The use of the drug is contraindicated in patients with neurological diseases, eg multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, in patients with active immune diseases and in people taking specific antibiotics. Apart from its use in aesthetics, it is the method of treating hyperhidrosis in the armpits, palms and soles, it is used in neurology to improve the spasticity of the upper limb in patients after a stroke, as well as in pediatric patients with cerebral palsy, blepharospasm and spastic wry neck.

Treatment with BOTOX lasts an average of 4-6 months and gradual recovery of muscle function with reappearance of wrinkles so the treatment needs to be repeated. After the first year, there is a decrease in the intensity of wrinkles, possibly due to a modification of the behavior of facial movements, and we need the treatment at less frequent intervals. It is very often combined with other facial treatments such as hyaluronic acid wrinkle fillers, hydration mesotherapy and firming treatments. BOTOX treats the dynamic wrinkles of the face, therefore it is a preventive treatment so that the repeated movements we all make do not end up with deep grooves and permanent wrinkles on our face.

Therefore, the most suitable patients are people aged 30 and over, where the lines start to be drawn mainly in the middle of the brow and on the side of the eyes. Of course, it has very good results at much older ages, but in these cases other interventions may be needed for a better result.
