Rhinoplasty is one of the most common plastic surgery procedures, and men and women resort to it. It is one of the most demanding operations as the nose occupies a central position on the face and often, in addition to the aesthetic, it also has a functional problem that must be addressed at the same time for the operation to be successful.
Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of the nose, change the shape of the ridge or the tip, correct the turn to one side or the other and correct the opening of the nostrils.
It can also be combined with correction of the septum or other elements inside the nose to improve breathing. Just as every face is different, so is the nose.
The purpose of Rhinoplasty is to give a functional nose as harmonious and beautiful as possible for the specific face.
Good communication between patient and doctor is very important. Pre-operatively, the nose will be examined in terms of its individual elements, bones, cartilage, skin, slopes and curves as well as the patient’s breathing. It will be decided jointly which points need to be improved. A detailed medical history will also be taken and the necessary tests will be done.
Rhinoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia. It lasts 1-2 hours.
The most common way is the “closed” rhinoplasty (without any external incisions), but the “open” method is also often used, where a small incision is made in the middle of the stylet that joins the tip of the nose to the upper lip. This method is usually used when the doctor needs to work on the tip of the nose and there are more complex problems to be treated.
At the end, special tampons are placed inside the nose which are removed after 24-48 hours and a special splint on the back of the nose for 1 week. The patient can go home the same day. Post-operatively, there is swelling on the right and left of the cheeks and bruises around the eyes which subside in about 1 week. The patient can return to work after 1 week. The final image of the nose will be seen in 3-6 months, although the improvement in shape and size is immediately visible
