It is the surgery that treats “dropped ears”. The problem is observed from birth. It usually affects both ears, rarely only one. It is usually a hereditary problem. Examining the ear we can observe 3 types of abnormalities.

The hollow part of the ear is very deep.
A combination of both.

Otoplasty comes to correct these problems and is usually done at the age of 5-6 years before the child goes to school as at this age the cartilage of the ear is sufficiently developed and stable so that the correction is effective and the child is not forced to suffer comments for a fairly obvious problem. Of course, the operation is also performed on adults.

In the first examination the doctor will examine the ears identifying the problem and photographs will be taken. The operation is performed in children with general anesthesia and in adults with local anesthesia.

The incision is at the back of the ear flap and is invisible. Special sutures are placed to turn the flap of the ear to the normal position and “close” the angle that the flap makes with the head. Depending on the dysplasia observed, sutures are placed at specific points. A section of skin is also removed from the back of the wing. The outer sutures are absorbable and a special bandage is placed around the head for a week to prevent accidental injury to the ear and to hold it in the new position until healing has progressed. Then it is recommended to use a ribbon during sleep for another 3 weeks.
